A Skincare Guide to Clearer Skin
Happy Thursday! I hope you all are having a great week! Mine is pretty chill besides work, just a lot of laundry and working planning out some content in advance, for once! I am working on trying to be more consistent on here. Today I am going to talk skincare and a little bit about my journey with acne over the years. I try to use all clean beauty products and I have been gradually swapping out my old products for cleaner ones. As someone who has had acne since I can remember, I can say that I have literally tried everything. No really, everything. From proactive, accutane, to every pill, cream, and serum under the sun. Basically, what I found on this journey to clear skin is that taking care of your body and learning about what it needs is really the only true way to clear it up. That means taking care of what you put inside your body AND on it. Once I started swapping out products for the cleaner ones, that’s when I really saw a change. I will also say that I did an anti-inflammatory diet, to some extent, for 3 months to test some theories I had about what I may be more intolerant too. I would definitely recommend trying whole 30 or doing an elimination diet to see what foods could be messing with hormones, causing acne to flair up. I will go more into that on a different post later on. Today I am sharing with you the products certainly in my routines and why I use them. All products mentioned will be linked, so just click on the product name to shop!
Follain is a great place to start your journey to clean beauty products. Some of the products mentioned below are linked to their website but they have are also some good starter kits as I will link as well. I recommend starting with those and introducing products to your routine one at a time.

Osea Ocean Cleanser. I just discovered this cleanser when I got my starter kit from Follain! This cleanser is perfect for sensitive or problematic skin as it doesn't make your skin feel dry or tight afterwards. I use it at night to take off my makeup and sometimes in the morning if I feel like my face is oily.
Pacifica Rice Bright. I love to use this scrub when I feel my skin has gotten a little dull or if I am about to put makeup on. I purchased this from TJ Maxx so I can’t link it, but remember to check your TJ Maxx for brand name products because they usually have a lot of products from Pacifica!
Formula 10.0.6 Three Time Sublime Scrub. I haven’t been using this scrub as much lately, because I am not sure it falls under the “clean beauty” umbrella. I do like this scrub for helping clean out pores and for the price you can’t really go wrong with it! This can also be used as a mask.
Heritage Store Rosewater Vinegar. I use this as my daily toner, morning and night. Sometimes in the morning I will skip a cleanser and only use this! I does smell a little like ACV but it has really helped my skin a lot in balancing out oils.
Indie Lee COQ-10 Toner. This is a new one in my collection. I use this every other day or when I feel like I may have a breakout coming. This toner really helped with balancing out my skin and calming my redness. Unlike the other, it smells pretty good!
So I get a little crazy when it comes to serums and I have several I use weekly. For this section I will break it down into morning and night serums.
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution. I have tried several of their serums and have only liked two, so far. This helps with puffy, tired eyes, which during allergy season is a life saver! If I am really struggling I will put this on before bed too for some extra help. It’s also super affordable compared to other products on the market!
Biossance Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum. I like to use this because it is a plant-derived alternative to retinol. I use this in the morning and a different one at night. This one is smooth and doesn’t effect makeup if you wear any afterwards. This is great for sensitive skin because it is not harsh like retinol tends to be.
Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Face Oil. This is a oil I would typically use after the retinoid serum. I will post a good infographic I found at the bottom of this article that helped me determine what order to use products in to help them absorb best. This oil is great if you have oily or combination skin. It has helped me with specifically with redness over the years. It can be a little pricey so I’ve included this oil from Acure that I am currently using instead with similar results! Acure Seriously Soothing Blue Tansy Night Oil.
THE ORDINARY Granactive Retinoid. This is real retinol, unlike the one above, so it may irritate sensitive skin. I have not had a problem with it so far and it’s been about 6 months now since I started using it. I don't use this one regularly though, just a couple times a week when I think about it.
Radha Beauty USDA Certified Organic Rosehip Oil. I use this oil to help with my acne scarring and so far I have been seeing that improve. I heard a lot of people recommending this for acne and amazon has a ton of good reviews on it! I would usually put this on last and rub it in with my Gua Sha.
Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Mask. I have loved this mask for so long. I am not too fond of the smell, but I love how this mask works so I keep using it! This mask is good for getting rid of dead skin and uncloging pores. It also helps soothe redness and irritation, which as you can tell by now is kind of a theme in my product selection.
FORMULA 10.0.6 No Stress Zone Skin-Defending Gel Mask. This is a new mask in my collection. I like to use it after a day in the city or when I feel like my skin is stressed out. I’ll report back on the results once I use it more, but it does make your skin feel soft and smooth afterwards!
PACIFICA Energized Glow Turmeric Spice Facial Mask. This is a sheet mask that I love to get whenever I feel fancy. It helps fight dullness and boost brightness. Best part? It’s only $4!
Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream. This has been my go to bedtime moisturizer lately. It’s a lightweight formula that is perfect for sensitive skin. I typically will only use a lotion with SPF in the morning. I’ll talk about that one below.
PACIFICA Crystal Youth Gem Infused Face Lotion. This is the nighttime lotion I used before I found Ursa Major. It is a more affordable option for sure. I will still use this in the mornings if I am not planning on going outside first thing.
Supergoop Superscreen Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA+++. If you could only have one product for the rest of your life, this would be it. Sunscreen is so important!! This one is the best of the best, I use it everyday! It doesn't feel greasy and doesn't clog pores. It says it helps to protect your skin from UV rays, blue light, and pollution— so yes it is worth the splurge.
Sonicsmooth. This derma-planing tool helps remove layers of dead skin, dirt and debris that block your skin care products from absorbing. I can tell a huge difference in my face when I use this and my products do absorb and work so much better when I use this weekly!
PACIFICA Rose Quartz Facial Roller. When my face is puffy from allergies, this is my savior. I use this after my morning serums and I keep it in the freezer for extra de-puffing!
Rosenice Aventurine Gua Sha. This facial massage tool is great if you hold a lot of tension in your jaw like me. It also helps your products absorb and help contour your face. I like to use this after my oils at night!
Whew, I just threw a lot of products at you. Don’t think you have to buy everything at once. Every time you run out of something you are currently using, remember to make a cleaner switch. Here are so good starter kits if you want to try several of these products I mentioned at once!
Follain Clean Essentials Kit. This has 4 trial size products, 3 of which I mentioned above!
Follain Blemish Fighter Kit. Great for targeting breakouts!
